Challenges to Replication and Iteration in Field Experiments: Evidence from two Direct Mail Shots

چکیده
We conducted an experiment marketing microloans to farmers in the United States during spring 2015, and found that a simple direct mail letter increased borrowing from a government program. The subsequent spring, we built on this finding and enriched the design to test for information spillovers. The second experiment used a different sample frame and slightly different letter, due to operational considerations. The direct effect result did not replicate in the second year, thus lowering the likelihood that spillovers would be present and detectable. These results add to recent evidence on how (seemingly subtle) differences in context and treatment content affect consumer responses (e.g., Allcott 2015; Bertrand et al. 2010). At the same time, many treatment effects do seem to hold in multiple contexts (e.g., Banerjee et al. 2015). So what is an experimenter to do given the constraints on the number of factors that can be Challenges to Replication and Iteration in Field Experiments: Evidence from Two Direct Mail Shots

An introduction to methods of discovering and identifying ancient sites with emphasis on evidence and geomorphologic techniques
Recognizing of position of ancient sites, it is of the great help to archaeologist. After this recognition, the archaeologist with rely on the knowledge and usual techniques in archaeology can determine the range of sites. After the discovery of this information, the archaeologist can get the information about the social, economic, livelihood and political of the past of sites. In this researc...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Influence of the Number of Laser Shots on the Characterization of TiO2/MgO Nanocomposites
The objectives of this work is to synthesize TiO2/MgO nanocomposites using a pulse laser deposition technique. At a vacuum pressure of 2.5 10-2 mBar, TiO2/MgO nanocomposites were synthesized on substrates with a laser power of 600 mJ and a wavelength of 1064 nm. This search utilizes various pulses (500, 600, and 700) at a 6-Hertz repetition rate. X-ray diffraction was utilized to inves...
متن کاملUse of Stochastic Turbulence Models in Jet Acoustics
There are many approaches to determine the sound propagated from turbulent flows. In hybrid methods, the turbulent noise source field is computed or modeled separately from the far-field calculations. To have an initial and quick estimation of the sound propagation, less computationally intensive methods can be developed using stochastic models of the turbulent fluctuations. In this paper, ...
متن کاملMicrosatellite (SSR) amplification by PCR usually led to polymorphic bands: Evidence which shows replication slippage occurs in extend or nascent DNA strands
Microsatellites or simple sequence repeats (SSRs) are very effective molecular markers in population genetics, genome mapping, taxonomic study and other large-scale studies. Variation in number of tandem repeats within microsatellite refers to simple sequence length polymorphism (SSLP); but there are a few studies that are showed SSRs replication slippage may be occurred during in vitro amplifi...
متن کاملA stable iteration to the matrix inversion
The matrix inversion plays a signifcant role in engineering and sciences. Any nonsingular square matrix has a unique inverse which can readily be evaluated via numerical techniques such as direct methods, decomposition scheme, iterative methods, etc. In this research article, first of all an algorithm which has fourth order rate of convergency with conditional stability will be proposed. ...
